The inspection and maintenance of lightning protection systems is an important part of the safe operation of a lightning protection system. Any defects that may have arisen, for example due to age or structural changes, or lightning protection systems that were incorrectly installed at the time of construction, can cause significant damage to the structure or its internal assets. If a lightning protection system is not inspected or maintained at the specified intervals, this can lead to insurance benefits not being paid out.
The inspection and maintenance of lightning protection systems essentially consists of the following components
Repeat inspection (complete inspection)
- Review of lightning protection documentation (inspection reports, drawings, etc.)
- Visual inspection of the lightning protection system and its components / parts, if desired, easily and cost-effectively using our video drone
- Determination of whether the existing protection is guaranteed
- Metrological inspection of the lightning protection system (measurement of the propagation resistance of the grounding system and measurement of the loop resistance of the interception system and down conductors)
- Determination of the corrosion condition of the grounding system
- Preparation of inspection reports listing any defects identified and preparation of a non-binding offer for remedying the defects
Intermediate inspection (visual inspection) – always takes place between two complete inspections
- Review of lightning protection documentation (inspection reports, drawings, etc.)
- Visual inspection of the lightning protection system and its components / parts, if desired, easily and cost-effectively using our video drone
- Determination of whether the existing protection is guaranteed
- Preparation of inspection reports listing any defects identified and preparation of a non-binding offer for remedying the defects
Inspections during construction / installation support
- It may be necessary for the grounding system to be checked by a qualified lightning protection specialist during installation
- The inspection then includes the metrological checking of the installed grounding components, photo documentation and preparation of inspection reports
- The inspection during construction must be carried out and documented before the pending concreting work
- The inspection during construction in precast concrete plants can also be carried out as a supporting measure by lightning protection specialists
Cost-effective and time-saving with our drone technology
The drone can be used as a recording option or as a visual inspection substitute. Remote control has a clear advantage, especially in areas that are difficult to access. In older castles or palaces, for example, the roofs are often inaccessible due to a lack of roof load bearing capacity or fall protection.
Our drone technology can also perform well in industrial plants – industrial chimneys and cooling towers are difficult to inspect. For our customers, this technology is a cost-effective alternative to access platforms or scaffolding.
